Meet Emily
I grew up the oldest daughter of a military pilot and a homemaker and lived all over the country as a young child. My upbringing was very traditional, patriotic, and family-oriented. I had the good fortune to live on the Coast Guard base in Kodiak, Alaska, from eighth grade through graduation, where we paused each day at the raising and lowering of our American flag.
I chose to follow in my mother’s footsteps and made my career inside the home as a mother and homemaker. I raised my son and three daughters in this area and sent them to a K-8 school, where they thrived. I am so excited about AUSD’s new TK-8 format, because I have seen firsthand how well students and teachers do in this environment.
Like may people at the onset of covid, I believed what I was told on tv. However, as the weeks and months went on, I began to question the narrative. When a truckers convoy was organized to protest mask and vaccine mandates, my husband and I traveled with them from Southern California to Washington DC. We were met by thousands of everyday Americans cheering us on at every stop along the way. This experience reminded me of how patriotic the rest of the country is and renewed my hope for our future.
As your new AUSD board member, I will pour my convictions into doing what’s right for this district. Sometimes I will make the hard decisions, but I will always work for our students, parents, and teachers to make AUSD successful at every turn.
